We Have A Dream–The Atlanta Dream
Posted on September 1, 2010 · Leave a CommentWell, the city of Atlanta just continues to prove over and over again that we’re a sports town and a winning one at that. The Atlanta Dream of the WNBA, in only its third season of existence, have made the playoffs and even more have made it to the Eastern Conference championship series. The Dream beat the Washington Mystics 2 two games to none to advance to this stage in the playoffs and will hopefully continue their dominating play!
It’s not known who the ladies will play just yet. They’re waiting for the outcome of tonight’s game between the Indiana Fever and New York Liberty whose series is tied at one game a piece. Either way the Dream are ready for Sunday’s Game One of the Eastern Conference Finals. The first game will be played at home here in Atlanta at Philips Arena on Sunday, September 5th.
The women need our support on their way to the Finals and even further, the WNBA Championship! So, let’s show it and make our way out to Philips. Tickets are going anywhere from $10 to $75, so let’s get our tickets and come Sunday get a caravan of families going from Belmont to Philips!

Let’s Volley–Adult Tennis Tournament
Posted on August 26, 2010 · Leave a CommentIn high school I started playing tennis as a hobby and was actually pretty good, but I never had the opportunity to play on the high school team because it interfered with baseball. But, I continued to play leisurely and couple years back I started playing tennis competitively in and around Atlanta. I started out playing through ALTA and it was fun, but my buddy convinced me to switch to T2 Tennis and I’m glad I did.
T2 allows you to pick the times that are best for you and if you play doubles, you can pick your own partner. It’s the flexible tennis league and no matter your experience level, they have a league for you–Men’s, Women’s, Juniors, Doubles, Singles and Mixed. So, if you’re looking to get into competitive tennis look into T2 Tennis and don’t forget about this weekend’s Adult Tennis Tournament at North, Wills and Webb Bridge Parks.
The City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department has put together an Adult Tennis Tournament this weekend, August 27th-29th. There will be two divisions for men and women with levels AA, A, B, and C (like ALTA). The team entry fee is just $50 and each teams is guaranteed 2 matches! So, Belmont at Park Ridge residents, if you’re interested be sure and call 678-297-6140 or email nptennis@alpharetta.ga.us.
A Brave Battle–Gwinnett or Atlanta?
Posted on August 24, 2010 · Leave a CommentThe Atlanta Braves return home this weekend for a series against division rival Florida Marlins, but so are the Gwinnett Braves. The G-Braves will be at Coolray Field taking on the Durham Bulls and Norfolk Tides. You can drive Downtown to the Atlanta Braves game and see our first place Braves, pay $12 for parking, spend about $100 on food for the family and be sitting in the upper deck. It’s a tough decision because the Atlanta Braves do have the best home record in the MLB.
Let’s look a little closer at our options. You can drive a shorter distance to see the G-Braves at Coolray Field, pay only $5 for parking spend half of what you would on food at the Ted and be 10 rows from the field. Triple-A baseball is a lot more intimate than the Majors and it’s ten times more family-oriented! They have on-field promotions about 7 innings out of the nine and your kid has a legitimate chance at participating. The only ‘con’ is that the G-Braves are not playing well, but it’s baseball!
So, Coolray Field or Turner this weekend? If it helps, the Gwinnett Braves are showing their thanks and holding Fan Appreciation Weekend Friday through Sunday. Promotions for this weekend include baseball card giveaways and fireworks on Friday. Coolray Field is only a 35 minute drive from Belmont at Park Bridge, so I’ll see you there right? Well, I’ll be there on Monday, August 30th for the last game of the season.

Classic Cruisin’ at the Aquarium
Posted on August 20, 2010 · Leave a CommentClassic cars are important to our heritage. They show the progress of where we were and how far we have come. Personally, one of my favorites is the classic Jaguar Roadster XKE120. Harold, from Harold & Maude, converted his Jaguar into a hearse and my interest in classic cars was sparked. I also never miss the annual classic car show in downtown Norcross.
Belmont at Park Bridge residents will have the opportunity to see some of the best of the best museum quality cars at the Atlanta Classic Car Show at The Georgia Aquarium on September 11th & 12th. Some of the best car that will be featured will be the 1930 Auburn Boattail Speedster, 1972 Ferrari Daytona, 1966 Jaguar XJ 275 and more! It’s an excellent time line on wheels for a car enthusiast or general admirer.
Admission to the car show will be included in the ticket price to the Georgia Aquarium, and visitors are encouraged to visit the aquarium. This is also the last weekend to see the Planet Shark exhibit. The Georgia Aquarium is located on 225 Baker Street in downtown Atlanta. That’s not too far from home is Belmont?

Need A Massage?
Posted on August 16, 2010 · Leave a CommentI give amazing massages! It’s true, just ask anyone I’ve given one to. But, it’s hard to find someone that is as talented as me that doesn’t cost money. So, I’ve done the best I can in finding a spa that offers massages that are of my caliber at the lowest possible price!
Elements Therapeutic Massage in Johns Creek has amazing massage therapists whose work can help to relieve back and neck pain, reduced stress, increase circulation and improve range of motion. And all that for just $40! But, don’t get me wrong, it’s not always $40. Elements is the Groupon Deal of the Day and is offering it for the next 8 hours. You purchase it today and you don’t have to use it until next February! That’s an awesome deal.
Elements is just a 12 minute drive from Belmont at Park Ridge, so get the Groupon and tell a few friends about it too! You can make it a fun day out for your whole group of friends!

A Brave Homecoming
Posted on August 12, 2010 · Leave a CommentThe Atlanta Braves are 39-15 at home this season, which is the best home record in the Major Leagues, and are returning tomorrow, August 13th for a 7 game homestand starting with the Los Angeles Dodgers. After a quick 3-game road trip to Houston, where they went 2-1, the Braves look to return home and add to the win column against a Manny-less Dodger squad. And I do too!
I have co-worker who’s a die hard Dodgers fan and he’s going to all four of the LA games, so I hoping the Braves can continue their “home” ways, plus we need to keep this lead over the fighting Phils! Braves, don’t let me down now; we need to take 3 out of the 4 games, no ties!
There’s nothing like a Braves game in the summer! Minus a little sweat, it’s the most fun in the city. Tomorrow’s game will feature post-game fireworks as they do every Friday home game, so be sure to take the kiddies! And Sunday is Mother-Son Day at Turner Field, so that’s the game I’ll be at with my mommy. I want to make sure you don’t forget about the Braves Two for One Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays because that’s the best deal in the city. The Braves are just the all around best in the city!
So, grab your tickets and head down to the Ted sometime this weekend! It’s only a 30 minute drive from Belmont at Park Ridge!

Wiggle It!
Posted on August 10, 2010 · Leave a CommentI can remember growing up watching children’s programming like Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and The Elephant Show on Nickelodeon. I, of course, loved them to no end and and watched them day in and day out. I graduated to Barney (that’s so hard to admit!) a few years later, but that was the end of children’s programming for me–until I discovered The Magic School Bus! That’s enough about me, let’s talk about kids nowadays. They have it too good; their shows are so much more innovative and creative. Take Yo Gabba Gabba! and The Wiggles, they have both had much success in children’s program due to better technology and innovation.
I’ve watched a few episodes of Yo Gabba Gabba! and I love it! I love The Wiggles too. You can probably catch me watching it with or without my niece sitting next to me and I’m not ashamed. Did I mention I’m a 25 year old man? No matter, I can’t help but love Wags, Henry and Captain Feathersword! With that being said, I’ll be at The Arena at Gwinnett Center this Saturday, August 14th where The Wiggles are slated to perform at 4:00 p.m. And of course I’ll be with my niece! It’s all for her. Get your tickets now!
Any families at Belmont plan on going to see The Wiggles this weekend?
Don’t ‘Spaz’ Out! Stress-Free Tips
Posted on August 9, 2010 · Leave a CommentIt’s something that we can’t avoid sometimes. But just because we’re stressed today, doesn’t mean we have to be stressed the rest of the week, right? Here’s a few “woo-sah” tips that will help you eliminate unnecessary worrying:
- Don’t panic. Evaluate the situation, weighing the good and bad. Try and find a solution that you will be comfortable with.
- Always have a plan B. Just in case “A” plays out a little earlier than expected, you’ll always find comfort in knowing that you have a little “cushion” behind you!
- Get involved in something fun! You spend most of the day working and taking care of the kids (if you have any). All you want to do is lay on the couch when you get home. But find something, at least one day out of the week (besides the weekend) to do something you like doing. Pick up a hobby or take a class of your interest.
Realsimple.com has a list of specific things that might stress you and how to handle them. Sometimes, you might even need to take a break and come to the clubhouse as a getaway!
Break away from stress!
